The Underrated Tragedy of Email Marketing

There are some people that fear that with the introduction of the sleek and new shiny toy known as Social Media… it’s predecessor Email has been permanently pushed aside. THINK NOT OF THESE FALSE ACCUSATIONS! Email is still here and sexier than ever!

Here is the proof:

No Competition

In the year 2014, Radicati Group projected 2.5 Billion email users worldwide. There are studies upon surveys upon reports with proof that email dominates when it comes to total users worldwide.

Reach

In social media we usually talk about “Potential Reach” to refer to the number of followers. For example in the case of SocialMouths, its potential reach on Facebook is 13k. That’s just the number of Page Likes (Fans) but your content only reaches a small fraction of that. Granted, email is only opened by a fraction of subscribers, but here’s the difference, the actual message will reach its destination, s/he then has the option to not read it.

Life Span and Action Orientation

The actual life span of social media postings are very very short. There a sent to a limited audience and can easily go unnoticed within a matter of minutes. Email, on the contrary, doesn’t die unless it is killed. It patiently sits in your audiences inbox until they delete it, open it.. OR possibly forwarded it to more potential clients. Email has become transactional in nature and you can use it to direct traffic to your website and it ultimately drives sales.

Return on Investment–

Email marketing as a channel was the third overall lead generation source for marketers in 2013, producing 13% of all leads (Source: HubSpot)…. AND For every $1 spent, $44.25 is the average return on email marketing investment (Source: Exact Target). Utilizing email marketing is a low-cost, affordable, and EFFECTIVE strategy that should be implemented if you’re a business trying to get the most BANG for your BUCK.

Analytics–

With the availability of tools and software monitoring statistics such as delivery, open, click, bounce, and unsubscribe… rates are TRACKED AND MONITORED so you know how certain campaigns will perform (B2C).

Engagement and Targeting–

With email marketing, customer targeting can be implemented through lead scoring, which is a classification methodology used to rank prospects against certain criteria (B2C). You, as a business, can easily choose who receives your email and who doesn’t.

Build Relationships and Rapport–

Email marketing is important for building relationships with prospects, leads, and current customers, and even past customers because it gives you a chance to speak directly to them, in their inbox, at a time that is convenient for them (Source: Half A Bubble Out).

Protection–

Google is constantly changing its algorithm and, sometimes, you can end up with a penalty without even knowing what you’ve done wrong. In that situation your mailing list is the only real protection you have. (Ramsay Tapling, The Blog Tyrant).

Promotion–

If someone has given you their email address they are ready to engage with your content or products. And, best of all, they’ll help you promote it so you can get more email subscribers. (Ramsay Tapling, The Blog Tyrant).

“If there is one thing that business, content, and conversion rate experts agree upon, it is that building an email list is vital. Don’t be the business owner that misses out on engaging with your audience, driving new business, and protecting yourself from changes in search and social algorithms.” (Campaign Monitor)
